welcome back to the second half of our school year.  A reminder to seniors that your service hours (15 hours minimum) will be due in May–only a few months away.  To assist you, Service Hours Log Form is now available in the PE 11/12 page on the website.

For current and upcoming units please continue to check the Unit Handout Page for the latest handouts and documents available to students. 

As always, if there are any problems opening up any of the links or attachments please let your PE teacher know so we can resolve the problem.

Senior PE students looking for service hour opportunities are to meet with Mr. Pavao Friday January 22nd after school to sign-up for the following duties:

• Cleaning and Washing of all mats (gymnastics, track, wrestling, etc)
• Cleaning out of Equipment Rooms and Equipment Inventory
• Inventory of JOPE Clothing
• Organization and repairs of weight room and table tennis tables
• Filing & Organization of miscelanious PE documents and items

A sign-up will be held Friday after school in the main gym.  See Mr. Pavao for further details.

Square dancing notes have been added to the Unit Handouts page.  Scroll down the list of sports/activities and click on “square dancing” to take a look at some terms and a review of the dances we have completed over the last two weeks.  There will be a quiz on Monday for day two and Tuesday for day one.

Volunteer Sign-up

Volunteers need to:

1. see Mr. Pavao to pick-up their volunteer Pass Wednesday November 9th for this year’s Joker Tournament;
2. inform your teachers of the blocks/days you will be missing well in advance–they should not be suprised that you are volunteering for the tournament;
3. if you are volunteering for an entire school day, you need to pick up a field trip form from Mr. Pavao ASAP

Lastly, if there are any shifts you can volunteer for (especially score keeping, game clock, shot clock) during the evening and on Saturday, that would be greatly appreciated.

A reminder to students (except Fitness 11/12) that we are starting our Square Dance Unit.  Students do not need to change into PE strip but they must have appropriate footwear (running shoes, court shoes, etc.

Senior PE students–below is a list of service opportunites at JO for the month of December:

X-mas Tree Lot–Nov. 30th – Dec. 18th (after school & weekends)

• assisting in the Christmas Tree Lot (selling trees, organizing trees, etc.) after school and weekends.  Sign-up with Ms. Jones in the South Gym PE Office

Boys Joker Classic–Dec. 10th, 11th, 12th (7:45am – 10:00pm)

• Sign-up Tuesday Dec. 1st after school in the hallway outside the Main Gym w/ Mr.Pavao.  Volunteer positions include: score keepers, game/shot clock operators, sweepers, clean-up crew, concessions, etc.

JO Wrestling Demonstration–December 8th 2pm-5pm

• Volunteers needed to assist with set-up/take down, officials table, score keepers, and assistants.  For more information sign-up with Mr. Fuocco.

Senior PE Students – Here are some December (Term 2) Service Hours Opportunities:

Christmas Tree Lot (dates begin December 1st) – All non-block club members who wish to volunteer at this year’s Xmas Tree Lot sale, please see Ms. Jones in the South Gym BEFORE you sign-up. First sign-up is for Block Club members only.

Jokers Classic (bball) 2009: volunteer sign up for the Nov. 26-28 event has begun. Students interested in volunteering as table officials (score sheet, shot clock and main clock operators) are asked to see Mr. Ambrose this week (Nov 16 – 20); students interested in other volunteer positions need to see Mr. P. Lee in B207 asap.

Seniors and Grade 10’s – as a follow-up to the presentation given by the Douglas College Nursing students a few weeks back, here is some recent information re: upcoming forum…

When: Monday, November 16th, Thursday, November 19th (times: 3:15 – 4:30) and Friday, November 20th (time: 2:00 – 3:15)

Where: Room 115A (please sign up for ONE date outside Room 202 as there is a limit of 20 students per forum).

What:  nursing students will collaborate with JO students regarding potential barriers and solutions to increase physical activity in parents and the community. Pizza and pop provided during forum.
